Background

The Coastal Trollers Association is a professional trade association based in Washington state. Trolling is a method of fishing in which “a lure or artificial fly is dragged through the water behind a watercraft,” according to the National Park Service.  3 4

The organization’s website contains information and links on topics such as specific types of fish and fishing methods, as well as fishing magazines and job boards.  3 5

The Coastal Trollers Association is a member of Save Our Wild Salmon, a coalition of Pacific Northwest and national environmentalist and conservation groups that advocate for the protection of salmon populations. Other members include the Alaska Trollers Association, the Coast Range Association, Conservation Northwest, Defenders of Wildlife, Earthjustice, Earth Ministry/Washington Interfaith Power and Light, the Earthrise Law Center, the Idaho Conservation League, the Institute for Fisheries Resources, the Intercommunity Peace and Justice Center, The Lands Council, the National Wildlife Federation, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the NW Energy Coalition, Oceana, the Sierra Club, and the Washington Wildlife Federation.  2
