Background

The Until We’re Equal Fund is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization created by the Groundswell Action Fund and Resist This PAC that was co-founded by Black Voters Matter Fund co-founder Latosha Brown in December 2021 to fundraise for existing left-of-center abortion-advocacy organizations. 3

Groundswell Action Fund

Groundswell Action Fund has committed to spend $20 million between 2020 and 2025 on left-of-center advocacy. It states that its spending will be based on equity standards based on the identity politics concept of intersectionality, which contends that ethnic minorities, women, and the LGBT community experience systemic expression. 5

Resist This PAC

Resist This PAC is a liberal super PAC that was created in December 2021. 2 As of May 2022, its largest donation was $1.6 million, with the second largest being $150,000, and it came from Defeat by Tweet, a left-of-center fundraising campaign that raises money to distribute to organizations working to defeat Republican candidates in the 2022 mid-term elections. 6 4

Structure

The Until We’re Equal Fund was created through funding from the Groundswell Action Fund and the Resist This PAC. At its inception, the Groundswell Action Fund provided funding for and handled the Until We’re Equal Fund’s administration tasks, with funding from the Resist This PAC. It was also co-founded by Black Voters Matter Fund co-founder LaTosha Brown to act as a pass-through organization by funding established activist organizations that advocate for left-of-center policy regarding abortion. 3

Until We’re Equal Fund’s website states that it works with organizations that advocate for increasing access to abortion providers and eliminating restrictions on abortions. It also states that other issues, namely repealing election integrity laws, are necessary for abortion advocacy. Its partner organizations include the All Above All Action Fund, Black Women for Wellness Action Fund, Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights Action Fund, Care in Action, Fortaleza, and Freedom Action Now. 1
