Texans Against Gerrymandering is a left-of-center advocacy organization that opposes Republican-led redistricting efforts in the state while favoring independent redistricting commissions as a substitute. 1 TAG was listed as a member of the Fair Maps Texas Action Committee, a coalition of local advocacy groups that oppose Republican-led redistricting efforts in Texas. 2

Lydia Ozuna is the president of the organization as of 2025. 3

Background

Texans Against Gerrymandering is a local nonprofit organization that promotes policies opposing Republican-led redistricting efforts while favoring independent redistricting commissions as a substitute. Towards these efforts, the group uses social media, civic education, and local advocacy. 1

Texans Against Gerrymandering is part of the Fair Maps Texas Action Committee, a coalition of advocacy groups that oppose Republican-led redistricting efforts in the state. Other members includes the ACLU of Texas, Clean Elections Texas, League of Women Voters of Texas, Our Vote Texas, National Council of Jewish Women-Greater Dallas Section, and Common Cause Texas. 2

In November 2021, the Fair Maps Texas Action Committee filed a federal lawsuit in the Western District of Texas challenging the constitutionality of the state’s congressional, state house, and state senate maps. The plaintiffs were represented by the Brennan Center for Justice, the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund, and the ACLU of Texas. 4

Black Votes Matter Capacity Building Institute contributed $9,300 to Texans Against Gerrymandering in 2023. 1

Leadership

Lydia Ozuna is the president of Texans Against Gerrymandering. She is a former educator, 5  6 earning a master’s at the University of Houston-Clearlake and a bachelor’s at the Texas Women’s University. 3  6

Stacy Maag is the vice president of Texans Against Gerrymandering. She has been a small business owner in Katy, Texas. She was involved with TAG since its 2017 founding and joined the board in 2022.  1 She has also been the director of grassroots for TAG.  1

Shirley Nicola is the secretary of Texans Against Gerrymandering.  Nicola has been a human resource professional in different industries. She has been a Harris County Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar. 1

Erica Barbee is the treasurer of Texans Against Gerrymandering. She joined the group in 2018. She works as an account executive for Fiserv, a financial technology company.  1
