The foundation has provided grants and partnered with various left-of-center organizations including The Clara Lionel Foundation, Jane Goodall Institute, and The Audacious Project. 2 3 4

Background

The Stadler Family Charitable Foundation is a private grantmaking foundation that prioritizes support for environmentalist and public health organizations. The organization changed its name to the Seadream Family Foundation in April 2021. 5

Grantmaking

The Stadler Family Charitable Foundation is partnered with multiple left-of-center organizations. The Clara Lionel Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in 2012 that claims its efforts to fight climate change intersect with abortion and contraceptive access and has therefore worked with left-of-center groups that are ostensibly unrelated to environmentalism and poverty alleviation, like the International Planned Parenthood Federation. The Stadler Family Charitable Foundation is listed as being a donor and support of the organization in its 2021 annual report. 6 7

The Jane Goodall Institute is a left-of-center environmentalist advocacy group and research institute. Founded in Tanzania in 1977 by British primatologist and far-left environmental activist Jane Goodall, JGI has since expanded to include chapters in 24 countries. The Stadler Family Charitable Foundation gave the Jane Goodall Institute more than $1 million in 2017. 8

The Audacious Project is a project of the TED Foundation which funds organizations intended to catalyze positive large-scale social impacts. Many of the groups it funds have left-of-center policy goals, particularly related to environmentalism and social justice. The Audacious Project names the Seadream Family Foundation as one of the “partners and individuals” who have contributed to the project. 9

Global Citizen (officially Global Poverty Project) a left-wing nonprofit aimed at eradicating poverty, launched a virtual concert promoting “vaccine confidence” during the COVID-19 pandemic in May 2021. VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World called for more funding from governments, philanthropists, and the private sector toward the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines. 10

During the VAX LIVE concert, the Seadream Family Foundation committed $1 million to the Gavi COVAX AMC, a project of Gavi the Vaccine Alliance, a public-private global health partnership consisting of large NGOs, drug companies, and private foundations with the mission of providing access to vaccines and immunizations to individuals in poor and developing countries, with an emphasis on child vaccination. 11

Financials

The organization had a total revenue value of just over $9 million in 2018, $8 million of which came from contributions and grants. Other income included $125,000 from investments, just under $500,000 in dividends, and $450,000 from sale of assets. Its total expenses amounted to just under $1.8 million, with approximately $1.6 million being spent on contributions, gifts, and grants paid. 12

The Stadler Family Charitable Foundation received just over $6 million in revenue for 2019, nearly $5 million of which came from contributions and grants, $136,000 due to investments, $742,000 in dividends, and $145,000 due to sales of assets. The organization’s total expenses amounted to just under $3 million, $2.7 million of which were charitable disbursements. The foundation had a total asset value of just over $34 million as of 2019. 13
