$450,0002024 Paul M Angell Family FoundationIn 2024, the Shriver Center will focus on several key areas to advance justice and equity: Housing Justice: We will advocate for tenants in federally subsidized properties in Illinois, enhancing their voice in property management and ensuring non-discriminatory practices. Our efforts include partnering with the Tenant Education Network to organize tenant associations, enforcing Source of Income laws, and collaborating with the Chicago Housing Authority to maintain property standards. We will also push for policy changes to improve access to affordable housing for all. Economic Justice: Our Economic Justice team will continue advocating for equitable revenue systems, fair funding for essential services, and expanded opportunities for marginalized communities. We aim to advance paid family and medical leave, expand guaranteed income programs, and shift from enacting to implementing recent legislation, such as the Illinois Child Tax Credit. Health Justice: In response to increased demand due to changes in health programs and migration, we will support Medicaid coverage, assist migrants with healthcare access, and facilitate Marketplace enrollment. Our work includes providing multilingual resources and guidance through HelpHub and Get Care Illinois, and leading efforts to address the impact of new state policies on immigrant healthcare. Community and Family Justice: We will continue to tackle the negative impacts of child welfare and criminal legal systems, with a focus on reducing racial disparities and supporting formerly incarcerated individuals. Our efforts include implementing recommendations from the Illinois Racial Disproportionality in Child Welfare Task Force and advocating for systemic reforms in child welfare and juvenile justice. Your support will ensure that the Shriver Center has the capacity to enact each of these activities and make substantial progress in housing, economic, health, and family justice for Black and Brown communities in Chicago.
