RepresentUs Education Fund is the charitable education arm of RepresentUs, a left-of-center organization that advocates for more stringent regulation of electoral and advocacy speech in American politics.
RepresentUs Education Fund (RUEF) is a nonprofit organization working to bring awareness to the alleged “money-in-politics corruption,” through education, research, and grassroots organizing. The organization utilizes digital platforms including an interactive blog, “The Bulletin,” as well as posting videos on YouTube, which it claims were viewed more than 1.5 million times in 2014.
RUEF’s blog, “The Bulletin,” includes articles on so-called “dark money,” election updates, and various members of Congress. The blog also includes a variety of informational graphics on topics such as lobbying, corporate influence, and federal spending.
In 2018, the organization reported more than $3 million in total revenue and more than $2.9 million in total expenses. The organization awarded more than $1.3 million in grants, more than $1.2 million of which went to RepresentUs.
The organization’s 2019 tax returns that revenue more than doubled to more than $6.3 million in total revenue and more than $4.8 million in total expenses. Similarly to 2018, the organization awarded more than $1.3 million in grants, including more than $1.3 million to RepresentUs; $10,000 to the National Association of Nonpartisan Reformers, a left-of-center group endorsing various electoral changes; and $20,000 to Voter Choice Education.
RUEF claims that funds contributed to the RepresentUs are spent on educational materials, volunteer calls, and staff deployments to events across the country.
