Public Interest Research Group in Michigan (PIRGIM) is the Michigan state-level affiliate of the U.S. Public Interest Research Group (US-PIRG). PIRGIM has campaigned against pesticides and antibiotics in farming, 1 supported weather-dependent energy that restricts overall energy production and opposed nuclear energy, 2 and called for the expansion and electrification of public transportation. 2

Advocacy
Public Interest Research Group in Michigan advocates for banning the use of antibiotics as a disease prevention measure in farming, warning that this use will result in antibiotic resistant bacteria and human infections. 1
PIRGIM advocated for legislation banning the use of pesticides in farming, especially a ban on RoundUp, a commonly used pesticide in gardens and lawns. US-PIRG, its parent organization, has pushed to ban RoundUp in several states. 4
PIRGIM has campaigned against conventional power sources such as coal and natural gas and has promoted the use of weather-dependent wind turbines and solar panels. 5 PIRGIM’s parent organization, US-PIRG, opposes the expansion of zero-carbon nuclear energy. 6
PIRGIM supports expanding public transportation. The group has proposed doubling the number of public transport users by 2030 and has called for all consumer vehicles to be fully electric by the year 2035. 7 PIRGIM supported transitioning public transportation to electrified buses. 8
