Not to be confused with Lawfare, a legal news outlet.

The Lawfare Project is a public interest law organization that provides legal counsel and services to members of the Jewish community to protect their civil and human rights. The Lawfare Project claims a global network of more than 350 lawyers. 1

Activities

The Lawfare Project’s Campus Civil Rights Project aims to protect the civil rights of Jewish and pro-Israel students and faculty on college campuses nationwide. The Lawfare Project claims that antisemitism and anti-Zionism have become increasingly common on campuses and that Jewish, Israeli, and Zionist students, groups, and faculty are regularly harassed and threatened. The Lawfare Project further claims that school administrators frequently ignore such problems or do not properly enforce school policies in defense of these students. The Lawfare Project provides guidance and legal assistance to victims of antisemitism, makes school administrators aware of harassment and threats, and works with media partners to bring attention to anti-Semitic and anti-Israel events on campuses. 2

The Lawfare Project aims to fight against the threat of “lawfare” by producing research and educating policymakers. The Lawfare Project claims that lawfare is the use of law as a weapon that threatens western democracy. The Lawfare Project also produces educational videos for the public, concerning issues like threats to freedom of speech and protecting children from recruitment by terrorists. 3

The Lawfare Project intends to advance human rights by fighting against extremism. The Lawfare Project produces educational materials exposing the threat of radicalization and takes legal action against individuals and organizations supporting terrorist networks. The Lawfare Project has successfully stopped the broadcasting of Al-Aqsa TV and Al-Manar in the U.S.; 4 provided counsel to corporations in order to stop them from implementing Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) practices; and terminated half of Kuwait Airways operations in the U.S., claiming it discriminated against those holding Israeli passports. 5

Funding

The Lawfare Project is funded by donations from individuals, foundations, and businesses. While the Lawfare Project does not disclose its donors, tax filings confirm donations from the Snider Foundation ($351,500 in 2019), 6 the Maccabee Task Force Foundation ($100,000 in 2016), 7 and the Jewish Communal Fund ($95,180 in 2018). 8
