    Background

Tarina Ahuja and a group of students started the Greater Good Initiative in May 2020. The founders created the organization to give young people the technical skills needed to draft formal legislation and participate in government. To organize this work, the group established a fellowship program through which participants were assigned to specific departments, such as Policy, Advocacy, or Strategy. 2  4

Since obtaining tax-exempt status, the organization has recruited high school and college students to write legislative briefs and policy memos. Students work with mentors to research social issues and develop specific recommendations. The initiative also coordinates meetings between its members and local or federal representatives to discuss these proposals. 5  6  7
