Granite United Way (GUW) is United Way’s largest New Hampshire-based organization, serving 85 percent of New Hampshire and Windsor County, Vermont following the merger of seven local United Way chapters. It makes $14 million in grants annually and has raised nearly $200 million since inception. GUW serves locally in Central New Hampshire, the Greater Seacoast Region, Merrimack County, North Country, Northern Region, Southern Region, and Upper Valley. 1  2  3

Partners

Granite United Way provides equity funding to Building Community in New Hampshire (BCNH), an organization that helps immigrants and refugees free services for housing, employment, driver’s license guidance and medical and legal aid. 4

NextEra Energy works with GUW to engage their employees in volunteering for GUW activities including Day of Caring and Community Baby Shower. This is particularly the case with NextEra Energy Seabrook’s Seabrook Station nuclear power plant. 5

As of 2025, GUW was engaged in a three-year partnership with the Mary Gale Foundation, to support housing, health and in home health services to low-income women aged 65 and older. 6

Activities

Housing

Granite United Way converted 92 rental units to affordable housing that provided shelter beds and have secured housing for 400 New Hampshire residents. 7

GUW was awarded a sole-source contract extension through June 2027 that increased funding from $1.2 to $2.7 million to extend a landlord-incentive program to transition New Hampshire Hospital patients to the community. 8

Early Childhood Initiatives

GUW’s Whole Village Family Resource Center provides over 300 families annually with programs to strengthen and support them and educated 40 companies to be designated Best Place for Working Parents. 9

Financial Empowerment

The organization partnered with 18 local agencies to provide free tax preparation and financial coaching. 10

Mental Health and Substance Abuse

Granite United Way is the fiscal agent for three of the 13 state public health networks in substance abuse prevention, including the Capital Area Public Health Network, Carroll County Coalition for Public Health, and South-Central Public Health Network. 11  12

The group facilitates the NH Opioid Abatement Trust Fund and Advisory Commission which was created in 2020 to receive funds from settlements with opioid manufacturers, distributors, and pharmacy companies. Settlements have been reached from 13 companies including Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, McKinsey and Company, Mckesson, and Jansen-Johnson & Johnson. 13

GUW provided funding to Lakes Region Mental Health Center to expand training and increase patient capacity. It also recruited nearly 400 corporate partners to participate in its Recovery Friendly Workplace program and engaged 63 partnerships in drug prevention efforts

in 2018. 14  15

GUW conducts a Day of Caring each year that provides volunteer-based project support and conducts This Giving Tuesday a fundraising program that features a matching $10,000 from Eversource. Eversource provided $175,000 in 2025 for the program. 16  17  18

Grantmaking

Granite United Way makes grants three times per year, offering $1,000 to $10,000 in unrestricted grants. Summer 2025 grants were awarded to 603 Legal Aid, Finding Our Side, New Beginnings Without Violence and Abuse, and the Bridge Project among others. New Hampshire Outright (formerly Seacoast Outright), the state’s oldest LGBTQ+ organization, received a summer grant from GUW. 19  20  21

People

Patrick Tufts was president and CEO of Granite United Way through the end of 2024. Nichole Martin Reimer, former chief engagement officer at GUW, replaced Tufts at the beginning of 2025. TD Bank regional vice president Joseph Bator was chair of the board of directors. 22  23

In 2023, Granite United Way generated revenue of $12,199,777, of which $4,899,868 or 40.1 percent was in the form of government grants. 26
