The Dilmanghani Foundation is a private foundation in New York that donates to various educational institutions in Westchester County. The Dilmanghani Foundation also funds certain left-of-center political organizations, including the WESPAC Foundation, Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York, and Democracy Now Productions.

Business Affiliation

The Dilmanghani Foundation is affiliated with the Dilmaghani Company, a rug and carpet store based in Westchester County, New York. The company specializes in the manufacturing, importation, distribution, and cleaning of oriental rugs. The company purports to have manufacturing standards that prohibit suppliers from using child labor. 1

Notable customers of the company include prominent businesspeople, entertainers, musicians, sports stars, and notable dignitaries and politicians, including former President Bill Clinton. 2

The company was founded by Mehdi Dilmanghani in 1921, though the Dilmaghani family’s roots in the oriental rug trade date back to the 1850s in Persia (modern-day Iran). 3 Mehdi’s son, Dennis Dilmaghani, has run the company since 1979. 4

Dennis Dilmaghani is also the chairman and trustee of the Dilmaghani Foundation. 5 The Dilmaghani Foundation was incorporated in 19656 and currently shares a business address with the Dilmaghani Company storefront in Scarsdale, New York. 7

Grantmaking

The Harvey School, an elite college preparatory school in Katonah, New York, is financially supported by the Dilmaghani Foundation, and has received thousands of dollars in donations from the foundation over the past two decades. 8

In 2019, the organization gave $8,000 to the Rye Free Reading Room, a library in Rye, New York. 9

Since 2001, the Dilmaghani Foundation has donated over $35,000 to the WESPAC (Westchester People’s Action Coalition) Foundation, a left-of-center nonprofit that advocates for left-progressive social change in Westchester County and beyond. 10  WESPAC is a supporter of the Green New Deal,11 Strike With Us,12 and Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS). 13

The Dilmaghani Foundation has given over $8,000 to the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York,14 a left-wing taxpayer-funded group that supports the Green New Deal, land redistribution, and the unionization of farmworkers.

The Dilmaghani Foundation has given $5,000 since 2012 to Democracy Now Productions (Democracy Now!), a left-progressive radio, TV, and internet news program. 15
