Coalition for Peace Action is a Princeton, New Jersey based far-left group with an ostensibly anti-war mission. The group also endorses an end to the use of reliable energy sources such as oil, natural gas, coal, and nuclear and their replacement by weather-dependent energy sources such as wind and solar. 1
The group also advocates for the ban and confiscation of commonly owned semi-automatic firearms. 2
Background
The Coalition for Peace Action was founded in 1980 as The Coalition to Reverse the Nuclear Arms Race. The group campaigned for a nuclear freeze and successfully passed a nuclear freeze referendum in New Jersey. The group advocated for negotiations between the United States and the Soviet Union to reduce nuclear arsenals and for a nuclear weapons testing moratorium in the United States which has been in place since 1992. 3
The National Religious Campaign against Torture and Interfaith Network on Drone Warfare are two affiliated groups. 4
Advocacy
Iraq War
The Coalition for Peace Action opposed the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003. In 2023, the group urged Congress to revoke of the authorization to use military force against Iraq claiming the revocation would be a repudiation to the war. 5
Iran Nuclear Agreement
In January 2016, the Coalition for Peace Action released a statement applauding the Obama administration’s Iran nuclear agreement. The group also applauded better relations with Iran which led to the release of hostages the country held. The group also called for diplomacy to end the Syrian Civil War and for nuclear disarmament talks with North Korea. 6
U.S. Aid to Ukraine
The Coalition for Peace Action has opposed U.S. military aid to Ukraine as that country defended itself against a Russian invasion since 2022. The group has called for diplomatic negotiations to bring the conflict to an end. The group claimed that the war could lead to a nuclear between Russia and the United States. The group also published a letter to the editor opposing the delivery of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, claiming the airplanes could be used to bomb civilian targets and could lead to a nuclear response by Russia. 5
Defense Spending
The Coalition for Peace Action advocates for deep cuts in the U.S. defense budget, including eliminating the country’s nuclear weapons arsenal, and spending the money on more social programs and programs to increase the use of weather-dependent energy. 7
Energy
The Coalition for Peace Action supports a fracking ban and the ban of reliable energy sources such as oil, natural gas, and coal and replacing them with weather-dependent sources of energy such as wind and solar. The group also opposes the use of carbon-free nuclear energy and endorses the Green New Deal. 1
Gun Control
The Coalition for Peace Action is a supporter of stricter gun control laws. The group has supported the ban and confiscation of certain commonly owned firearms citing legislation passed in Australia which confiscated certain types of guns. 2
2024 Presidential Election
Following the November 2024 presidential elections and President-elect Donald Trump‘s victory, the Coalition for Peace Action released a statement calling the results “shocking, discouraging, and depressing.” 8
Leadership
The Coalition for Peace Action’s executive director is Robert Moore. Moore is an ordained minister with the United Church of Christ and has been the full-time executive director of the group since 1981. 4

According to the Coalition for Peace Action’s 2023 tax return, the group had $83,404 in revenue, $62,042 in expenses, and $173,542 in assets. 9
