    Founding and History

    The Chartrand Foundation was founded in 2006 by Jeff Chartrand and other members of the Chartrand family to provide funding for educational programs. 1 The foundation’s board consisted of several family members, including businessman Gary Chartrand. 3 In 2011, Jeff Chartrand stepped down as executive director of the foundation and was replaced by Ashley Smith Juarez. 1

    Activism

    The foundation primarily gave to educational causes in the Jacksonville area, including school districts and other educational nonprofits. On the national level, the foundation donated to Teach for America, contributing $1,119,391 from 2007 to 2012. 2

    In addition to educational causes, the Chartrand Foundation frequently supported local LGBT causes. The foundation donated $204,170 to the Jacksonville Area Sexual Minority Youth Network (JASMYN) from 2009 to 2012. 4 In 2014, Jeff Chartrand received the Diamond Award from JASMYN for his role in helping the Community Foundation for Northeast Florida establish its new LGBT Community Fund. 5
