The Avram Miller Family Foundation (AMFF) is an environmentalist organization centered around left-leaning causes such as climate change and the environment. It is associated with organizations such as left-of-center Post Carbon Institute, which focuses on energy scarcity and climate change.

Avram Miller

Avram Miller is president of the Avram Miller Family Foundation. 1 He is a businessman, venture capitalist, scientist, technologist and musician who worked as vice president of Business Development for Intel Capital from 1984 to 1999, in addition to being its co-founder. 2 In 1999, he founded the Avram Miller Company, which specialized on providing global strategic advice to technology companies. 3

On October 11, 2023, Avram Miller joined the board of directors for Renovaro Biosciences  in an advisory role. Miller will contribute to the company’s strategy and business development efforts. 4 In January of 2023, Miller was a part of an integral round of funding that raised an additional $5 million in Series A funding for Wisdo Health, a New York-based provider of a peer support platform focused on ending social isolation. 5

Funding

In fiscal year 2018, Avram Miller Family Foundation reported revenue of $2,218 and expenses of $70,714. Its assets were $68,496. 6 The Foundation contributed $66,199 in 2018. 7 In 2017, the Foundation reported revenue of $51,259, expenses of $30,090, and assets of $68,496. 8

Grantmaking

For 2018, Avram Miller Family Foundation donated $64,699 in donor-advised funds to American Endowment Foundation.  The Avram Miller Family Foundation gave $28,469 in contributions in 2017. 9 From 2010 to 2012, the AMFF gave $50,000 to Equal Access. 10 From 2010 to 2017, it contributed $77,500 to Post Carbon Institute. 11

Generally, a donor advised fund (DAF) is a separately identified fund or account that is maintained and operated by a section 501(c)(3) organization, which is called a sponsoring organization. Each account is composed of contributions made by individual donors. Once the donor makes the contribution, the organization has legal control over it. However, the donor, or the donor’s representative, retains advisory privileges with respect to the distribution of funds and the investment of assets in the account. 12

For grant years 2013 through 2017, the years preceding the 2018 grant to the AEF donor-advised fund, the Avram Miller Family Foundation gave multiple annual grants to left leaning policy groups.  The Post Carbon Institute received a cumulative of $55,000 from 2013 to 2017. The AMFF donated $14,00 to Jewish Community Federation during 2013 to 2017, including $10,000 in 2014. 13 From 2014 to 2017, the AMFF gave $250 each year to the Southern Poverty Law Center. In 2015, the Avram Miller Family Foundation gave $5,015 to the Network for Good, a left-of-center donor-advised fund that specializes in streamlining online charitable giving.
