AlterNet is a left-of-center online news outlet.

Ownership Changes

In April 2018, The Independent Media Institute relinquished ownership of AlterNet, a left-of-center journalism and commentary website, to the owners of Raw Story, another left-of-center online news organization.¹ The owner of Raw Story, John Byrne, explained that the transition of ownership would not end the publication’s supposed “commitment to social justice,” nor would it change the left-of-center website’s “determination to spread the word on civil rights, drug reform, the environment, and civic engagement.”²
