The New River Abortion Access Fund is a left-of-center nonprofit based in Blacksburg, Virginia, that provides funding and support for women seeking abortions in Virginia and Appalachia. ¹ The organization is associated with the National Network of Abortion Funds. ²

Background

The organization was founded in 2019 by three Blacksburg locals, and it says that it funds multiple abortions each week. ³ The organization is run entirely by volunteers. ⁴

Activities

New River Abortion Access Fund promoted a giveaway on its Twitter for a fundraising event in which one of the prizes was dark chocolate in the shape of female anatomy. ⁵ It also retweeted a tweet which argued that abortion clinics and maternity centers should receive more funding than the military. ⁶
