Truth and Justice Fund, also known as Truth and Justice Fund Company, is a left-of-center political action committee (PAC) that disburses funds to Democratic candidates and against Republican candidates. Based in North Carolina, it has typically spent on campaigns in that state as well as on races in Montana. ^{1 2}

Financials

At the end of 2024, Truth and Justice Fund had received $773,200 in contributions, spent $121,796 on operation costs, and made $652,727 in independent expenditures on behalf of political campaigns. ¹

Grantmaking

Truth and Justice Fund spends on behalf of Democratic candidates and against Republican candidates. It has specifically targeted races in swing states, such as North Carolina, and substantially supported then-U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) during the 2024 election cycle. ^{3 2}

From 2017 through 2024, Truth and Justice Fund spent an estimated $3.3 million on efforts to aid Democratic candidates running for Senate. ³

In the 2020 cycle, Truth and Justice Fund spent $1,161,000 supporting Senate candidate Cal Cunningham (D-NC) and $432,208 in favor of Senate candidate Steve Bullock (D-MT). Both candidates lost. ⁴

In the 2022 cycle, Truth and Justice Fund spent a total of $1,015,476, all of it directed against Senate candidate Ted Budd (R-NC). Budd would win the election. ⁵

In 2024, Truth and Justice Fund spent $656,228 on Senate races. ³ It spent $445,824 against Tim Sheehy (R-MT) and $206,9000 in favor of his opponent, then-Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT). Sheehy won the election. ^{2 6}

In 2025, the right-of-center Alliance for Consumers (AFC) released an update to its report “Shady Trial Lawyer PACs,” analyzing the amount of funds disbursed from trial lawyer-affiliated federal political action committees to left-of-center organizations. These PACs are often given contracts by American politicians under the banner of “consumer protection.” The report named the Truth and Justice Fund among these PACs. ³

Truth and Justice Fund Company received over $1 million from the American Association for Justice (AAJ) PAC, the sister organization of long-standing left-of-center trial lawyers’ advocacy group American Association for Justice and one of the other “shady trial lawyer PACs” named in an Alliance for Consumers study. ³
