The Manhattan Libertarian Party (MLP) was established as a chapter of the New York City Libertarians in 2000 to advocate limited government and individual freedom. MLP promotes what it calls “smaller and smarter government” to prioritize individual liberty, personal responsibility, a free economy, and peace. ¹

Activities

In the November 2021 New York municipal elections, the Manhattan Libertarian Party supported Libertarian candidates including Stacey Prussman, who unsuccessfully ran for Mayor of New York; Michael Lewyn, who unsuccessfully ran for Manhattan Borough President; Devin Balkind, who unsuccessfully ran for New York City Public Advocate; and John Tabacco, who unsuccessfully ran for New York City Comptroller. MLP also supported Libertarian candidates in City Council races, including Suraj Jaswal and Matthew Morgan, along with Republican candidate David Casavis and Democratic candidate Erik Frankel. None of the supported City Council candidates won his race. ²

Leadership

Chance Haywood is the chair of MLP, the founder and executive director of the Restoring Liberty PAC, and the finance director of the Libertarian Party of New York. ³

Other members of the board include vice chair Rob Power, secretary Jason Clifton, and treasurer Gary Gregory. ⁴
