Roxana Tynan is a social activist and board member of the Amalgamated Charitable Foundation. She was the executive director of the Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE) and worked for Jackie Goldberg during Goldberg’s time on the Los Angeles City Council. 1 Tynan was elected to the board of Amalgamated Charitable Foundation in 2019. 2

Union and Nonprofit Activism

Roxana Tynan began her career as an “organizer for the Hotel and Restaurant Employees Union [HERE)] in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.” 3 HERE has since merged with the Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees (UNITE) and is an affiliate of the AFL-CIO. Tynan started working for the Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE) in 2001, holding the position of deputy director and eventually becoming executive director in 2012. 4

In 2024, she stepped down from her role as executive director and is now a senior advisor. Tynan became a member of the Aspen Institute’s Job Quality Fellowship Class of 2022 to 2023. 3 This Fellowship works to connect leaders from sectors such as nonprofit, government, philanthropy, and academia to “help low- and moderate-income American thrive in today’s economy.” 3

Political Activism

Tynan served as the “economic development deputy to former Los Angeles City Councilmember Jackie Goldberg.” 1 Jackie Goldberg was a city councilwoman in Los Angeles from 1993 to 2000. Goldberg was a Democrat and well known for being the first openly lesbian elected official in Los Angeles. 5
