Bill Gallegos is a career activist who has spent his life building left-wing political coalitions and advocating for environmentalist policies, organized labor, and social issues. He was raised in Colorado and had his first activist experience with Crusade for Justice, a group involved in the “Chicano” activist movement of the 1960s. ^{3 4}

Gallegos was previously the executive director at Communities for a Better Environment (CBE), an environmental activist group. ⁵ In this role, Gallegos participated in California’s state environmental justice advisory committee for AB 32, legislation requiring greenhouse gas emissions reductions. Gallegos was also involved with the creation of Climate Justice Alliance, an organization that CBE helped found, as well as the Building Equity and Alignment initiative which built a coalition of environmental groups at a national scale. ⁶

Gallegos was the major contributor to a community leadership development curriculum created by the Coalition for Educational Justice, as well as a youth leadership curriculum developed by the San Fernando Valley Partnership. ⁷
