    Principles

The People’s Mission Coalition (PMC) is a community activist group based in San Francisco, California that advocates defunding the city’s police department due to its alleged targeting of the homeless population and racial minorities. 1

The organization is based in the Mission District neighborhood of San Francisco and has opposed policing within the BART Plaza in the neighborhood, which it argues limits “a gathering space where all walks of people come together to… create the radical community care and resistance the Mission District is known for.” 1

PMC claims the city of San Francisco is committing a “violent war on the poor,” and that the “political, business and nonprofit elite” in San Francisco perpetuate anti-poor sentiment, while furthering “anti-Black and racist violence against the most vulnerable in our community.” 1  5

PMC has also advocated for ending the regulation of street vending, supporting prostitution as a legitimate form of work, providing community showers and lockers for homeless populations, ending the suppression of “youth and street cultures,” reducing rent while providing increased low-income housing, and increasing the number of safe consumption sites for drug users. 2

    Activities

On April 8, 2023, the People’s Mission Coalition held a vigil in BART Plaza in San Francisco for “survivors and victims of police and gendered violence.” At the vigil, PMC handed out food, water, and COVID test kits to attendees. 1

On July 9, 2023, PMC hosted a “Down with the Police State” rally in the Clarion Alley neighborhood . PMC called on attendees to wear masks and advertised the event with images depicting police as pigs. 6

On October 28, 2023, PMC called on its supporters to urge their representatives to “end the ongoing genocide of Palestinians” following the October 7, 2023 Hamas terror attack on the State of Israel.  7

As of September 2025, the website for the People’s Mission Coalition was defunct. A Web Archive capture from April 26, 2024, showed that the domain had expired. 5
