Patagonia Action Works (PAW) is a platform that connects environmentalist activists, organizations, and social causes. PAW has been described as “like a dating site for those who care about our planet.”
PAW was founded and is run by Patagonia, a sportswear apparel company known for its environmentalist activism. PAW was developed in conjunction with Someoddpilot, a Chicago-based creative agency.
Only nonprofits that have previously received donations from Patagonia can join PAW. Organizations that joined the platform at its launch included Extinction Rebellion, Save Our Rivers, Friends of the Earth, Surfers Against Sewage, and Rewilding Britain.
In the first six months of operations, Patagonia Action Works claimed to have produced more than 121,000 “meaningful advocacy actions,” including volunteering jobs, event attendances, donations, and petition signatures. The activity generated more than $1.9 million in value from more than 7,400 volunteer hours.
Skilled Volunteering Opportunities
Patagonia Action Works advertises part-time and short-term volunteer opportunities. Each posting contains a description of the nonprofit and an estimation of how much money the organization will save by relying on volunteer labor.
