The Omar Asghar Khan Foundation (OAKDF) is an advocacy organization located in Pakistan that promotes a democratic society through the protection of human rights and justice as well as assisting migrants displaced due to armed conflict. The foundation is named after Pakistani activist Omar Asghar Khan. 1

Background

Omar Asghar Khan Foundation is an advocacy organization located in Pakistan that promotes open and responsive government, combatting poverty, and “climate resilience.” 2

The Foundation is named for Omar Asghar Khan, a Pakistani political economist and politician who worked on labor advocacy. Khan served as a minister in the military regime of Pervez Musharraf, resigning in 2001 to contest the 2002 parliamentary elections. Khan died before the elections. 3

Funders

In 2012, the Omar Asghar Khan Foundation received $200,000 from the George Soros-funded Open Society Institute “to gain insights into the impediments in accessing justice faced by the poor and marginalized.” 4

In 2010, the Omar Asghar Khan Development Foundation received $178,800 from the Open Society Institute “to support organized groups of those affected by the 2010 floods to more effectively cope.” 5
