Background

The National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP) is a left-of-center LGBT advocacy coalition that is coordinated by the New York City Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project (NYC AVP), an LGBT advocacy group that provides health, financial, legal, and political resources to LGBT people in New York City. 4

NCAVP is a national coalition of affiliated organizations, individuals, and local member programs. The coalition consisted of over 50 organizations as of May 2024. It engages in policy advocacy and provides data analysis and education to its member organizations. NCAVP also releases two national reports per year on “LGBTQ Hate Violence” and “LGBTQ Intimate Partner Violence.” 5 6

NCAVP states that one of its goals is to advocate for more federal funding, policies, and legislation to be more “inclusive” of the LGBT community. The coalition also notes that it coordinates the National LGBTQ Training and Technical Assistance Center, and aims to work as a foundational partner of the LGBTQ Learning Center Institute. 7

Affiliated Organizations

The National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs is comprised of several left-of-center organizations including the Marsha P. Johnson Institute, an advocacy organization supporting the interests of Black transgender people. BreakOUT (also known as Youth BreakOUT) is also a member of the NCAVP. BreakOUT is a far-left organization that advocates for left-of-center LGBT-interest policies and manages related activist and community programs in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is sponsored by Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs, a left-of-center fiscal sponsor and nonprofit incubator. 11 12
