People

Mariam Khokhobaia founded the Margaret Thatcher Centre of Georgia in 2020. Prior to founding the organization, Khokhobaia was a senior project manager at the Open Society Foundations, a private grantmaking foundation created and funded by billionaire financier and liberal philanthropist George Soros. She was in that position between April 2014 and April 2017 before becoming a member and policy analyst at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia from September 2016 until December 2017. 5

Khokhobaia was a communications fellow at the Heritage Foundation from September 2021 until November 2021. The Heritage Foundation is a right-of-center policy think tank founded in 1973 that researches and recommends policies such as free markets, limited government, a strong national defense, and courts that adhere to the original meaning of the U.S. Constitution. Khokhobaia returned to the Heritage Foundation as an academy fellow in January 2022, a position that her LinkedIn page stated that she holds as of April 2024. 6 7 8
