Indivisible Livingston

Indivisible Livingston is an informal left-of-center organization based in Livingston County, Michigan. It is an affiliate of the left-of-center organizing and activism network Indivisible.

The organization was founded in 2017 to oppose then-President Donald Trump and his policies. The organization grew to a membership of over 1,000 by August 2020. [1]

The organization does not have a website, but it has a private Facebook group with over 1400 members. [2]

Policy Advocacy

The organization supports more liberal immigration laws including legal status for illegal immigrants, opposes immigration enforcement, and opposes tax cuts. The organization also gathered signatures in support of an initiative to create an independent redistricting commission. [3]

The organization also supports restricting political speech through campaign finance regulation, supports expansive abortion access, opposes school choice, opposes entitlement reform, and supports increasing the minimum wage. [4]

Activities

In February 2019, the organization protested President Trump’s declaration of a national emergency that would redirect funding towards building a wall on the Mexican border. [5]

In April 2020, the organization co-signed an op-ed in support COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions. The op-ed also criticized opponents of lockdowns as inflaming the people of Michigan and putting lives at risk. [6]

In January 2022, the organization signed a letter by Fix Our Senate which called on the Democratic majority in the U.S. Senate to eliminate the Senate filibuster, the rule requiring a supermajority vote to end debate and proceed to pass legislation, and to enact a federal takeover of elections that would weaken of vote-security laws. [7]

In January 2022, the organization signed a letter by Stand Up America that called on Democrats to eliminate the Senate filibuster and enact legislation supporting a federal takeover of elections and a weakening of voter security laws. The letter also called for the District of Columbia to be made a state. [8]
