The Committee of Anti-Imperialists in Solidarity with Iran (CASI) is a nonprofit organization that advocates against U.S. and Israeli foreign policy and defends the Islamic Republic of Iran. The group does not appear to hold independent tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). 1

It advocates for Palestinian interests and the lifting of sanctions imposed on Iran, and opposes all military interventions by the United States and its allies in the Middle East and elsewhere. 2 3

Background

Committee of Anti-Imperialists in Solidarity with Iran (CASI) is an advocacy organization that advocates against US and Israeli foreign policy and defends the state of Islamic Republic of Iran. It advocates for Palestinian interests and the lifting of sanctions imposed on Iran, and opposes all military interventions by the United States and its allies in the Middle East and elsewhere. 4

Activities

In April 2024, CASI released a statement titled “No war on Iran, stand with the resistance.” It endorsed 20 organizations it sees as supporting Iran’s right to self-defense against “Zionist aggression,” citing Israel’s alleged “illegal attack” on an Iranian compound in Damascus that resulted in the “murdering” of “high-value personnel” in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). 5 The statement called on the U.S. and its allies to end the blockade on Gaza and lift all sanctions imposed on Iran. 6

The statement asserted, “We not only support Iran’s right to defend its sovereignty in the face of imperialist aggression, we also view Iran’s actions as part of the long decolonizing tradition and expression of principled international solidarity among the peoples of the Global South.” It further argued that the actions of Hamas in Gaza represent another piece of this “decolonizing tradition.” The statement also celebrated the apparent decline of U.S. power, writing “the days of the US subjugating the nations of the region are over.” 7

The organizations endorsed were Al Awda (Palestine Right to Return Coalition, both the National organization and the NY/NJ branch), Anakbayan Manhattan, ANSWER Coalition, Black Alliance for Peace (BAP), Bronx Anti War Coalition, Friends of Swazi Freedom, International Action Center (IAC), International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL), Masar Badil: Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement, National Lawyers Guild-International, National Students for Justice in Palestine, Nodutdol for Korean Community Development, Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), PAL National, Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, Sanctions Kill, Teaching Palestine: Pedagogical Praxis and the Indivisibility of Justice, the People’s Forum (TPF), United National Antiwar Coalition (UNAC), and Workers World Party. 8

The statement was co-signed by the National Lawyers Guild International, Samidoun Palestinian Solidarity Network, and many of the other groups endorsed. 9 10
