Black and Pink MA is a defunct far-left activist group that sought to abolish the prison system, legalize prostitution, and bring about a radical-left revolution. It also ran a variety of programs focused on mutual aid focused on LGBT prisoners and former prisoners transitioning back into society. The group promoted gender transitions at any age and the use of hormone treatments. The group was fiscally sponsored by the Alliance for Global Justice after it ceased being a formal affiliated chapter of the Black and Pink national organization. 1 2 3 4 5
Founding and History
Black and Pink MA was founded as a Massachusetts chapter of the national Black and Pink radical-left LGBT activist group at some point before 2018. In 2023, it severed its relationship as a chapter of the national Black and Pink and became a fiscally sponsored entity of the Alliance for Global Justice. However, its activities appear to have largely ceased after 2023, and it was involuntarily dissolved by the Massachusetts Secretary of State on June 30, 2025. 1 5 4
Finances
As a fiscally sponsored entity, Black and Pink MA did not have any independent tax filings. Its fiscal sponsor, the Alliance for Global Justice, reported in 2023 that it spent $271,750 on its over 100 fiscally sponsored entities, and had $101,191 in revenue related to those entities. 6
Organization Philosophy
Black and Pink MA is a self-avowed revolutionary leftist organization, stating that it desires revolution, but will work towards incremental change. It opposes capitalism and embraces a left-wing gender ideology. It has published a guide for sexual transitioning favoring beginning transitions at any age. It also claims to be anti-racist and feminist. 1 3
Black and Pink MA published a lengthy “land acknowledgement” on its website breaking down the tribes it claims previously owned the land on which all its operating facilities were located, as well as all the prisons in the state. 1
Projects and Initiatives
Before its closure, Black and Pink MA administered a variety of programs in the Boston area. One of the group’s main programs was a prison pen pal program aimed at matching an LGBT prisoner with a sympathetic person outside of the prison. It also conducted policy and advocacy work related to prison conditions for LGBT inmates. It advanced policies regarding prostitution, such as seeking to decriminalize street walking and all prostitution in general, arguing prohibition is discriminatory against transgender people. 7 8
Before it ceased operations, Black and Pink MA administered a variety of mutual aid and pro bono advocacy programs. Many of these programs were focused on reentry for prisoners, especially LGBT prisoners, back into society. The group also administered a reentry home for transgender prisoners upon their release from prison. 9 10
Leadership
Michael Cox was the former executive director of Black and Pink MA, a position he held from 2020. Cox was previously the deputy director of policy at Black and Pink national and has worked on two Massachusetts state commissions related to LGBT issues. 11
