The Women’s Equity Center and Action Network (WE CAN) is a left-leaning feminist organization which seeks to help minority women and girls increase their personal and cultural influence. 1 It was founded in 2015. 2

Funding

WE CAN does not disclose its funding or expenses on its website. It has received funding from Resist, a radical left-wing organization which condemns capitalism, “heteronormativity,” and “Christian hegemony.” 34

Mission

WE CAN advocates for liberal social and economic values. Its efforts are split it into two categories – general advocacy through the Equity Center and organizing through the Action Network. 56

The Equity Center provides personal and professional coaching, networking opportunities, professional and leadership seminars, and political advocacy seminars for minority women. 7

The Equity Center pushes for “equal pay” for minority women, claiming that they are underpaid for their work. 8 The organization also supports reparations from slavery, endorses the gender-identity movement, and backs “the Squad” – a group of highly controversial far-left Members of Congress. 91011

The Action Network serves as a platform for left-wing activism. Its website has petition, e-mail, fundraising, and other services for groups to organize and promote campaigns. 12 Its four main “Actions” include improving health care results among minority women and engaging minority women to vote. 13

Leadership

Stephanie McGencey is the Women’s Equity Center and Action Network’s president. She is also director of a recidivism reduction campaign called the Reentry Ready Project. Her background is in social services, drug prevention, and other advocacy and leadership. 14

McGencey is also on the Center’s three-person Board of Directors. The other two members are Kimberly Otis and Sheri Brady. 15 Otis is a longtime social activist and consultant to activist groups. In addition to several roles in consultant and similar positions, she was also Director of Advancement for Women for Afghan Women, where she worked to end “honor killings” and other abuses of women in Afghanistan. 16

Brady is a senior staffer for the Aspen Forum for Community Solutions. She is a longtime left-leaning community activist. 17
