TODOS Mathematics for All (TODOS) is a Tempe, Arizona-based organization that advocates for race-focused math programs for racial and ethnic minority children, primarily Hispanic students. 1
TODOS has received grants from left-wing philanthropy groups accused of funding left-wing educational groups that promote critical race theory in mathematics, including the Heising-Simons Foundation and the Gates Foundation. 2
Activities
TODOS Mathematics for All has five stated goals: to train educators to teach racial-activist mathematics, to expand its network of TODOS educators, to advocate for race-first educational curricula, to involve parents and families in education, and to produce left-of-center educational materials and resources. 1
To disseminate these materials, TODOS publishes a blog, podcast, and book club. It also maintains a TODOS Live! campaign, a series of educational online webinars for teachers and parents funded by a National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) grant. 3 TODOS also has several committees through which it advocates for left-of-center educational curricula, organizes educational grant funds, and plans professional development programs. 4
TODOS maintains two special interest groups. The first, Educators of Native American Students (EONAS), is an affiliate of the NCTM and advocates for race-first curricula for Native American students. The second special interest group, TOD∀XS=, is an educational advocacy group specifically for what it calls “2SLGBTQIA+ (Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual/Agender, and other non-normative gender identities and sexualities) students.” 5
TODOS also publishes several position papers in partnership with other so-called social justice organizations, including the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM). One TODOS and NCSM joint paper was titled, “Mathematics Education Through the Lens of Social Justice: Acknowledgement, Actions and Accountability,” and argued for a race-first approach to mathematics education. 6 The right-leaning Campus Reform outlet reported in 2017 that TODOS and NCSM affirmed their commitment to “ratify social justice as a key priority in the access to, engagement with, and advancement in mathematics education for our country’s youth,” because both groups claim that mathematics is rooted in “privilege” and “oppression.” 7
TODOS and NCSM were cited in a 2023 study that argued for a method of teacher professional development called “teaching mathematics for social justice (TMSJ).” This method of professional development encourages teachers to use race and social activism in mathematics to challenge “[t]raditional mathematics instruction,” which the study claimed “implicitly [dismisses] the diverse knowledge, culture, and language of all students.” 8
Leadership
Marian Dingle is the president of TODOS Mathematics for All. 9 She also works as the community engagement manager for the Assessment for Good project. Dingle has been a member of Building Leadership Teams, led grade level teams, served on the Georgia Mathematics Advisory Council, and was an advisory board member for the Center for Anti-Racist Education (CARE). She also speaks nationally about teaching and provides professional development to schools and organizations. She received a bachelor’s in economics from the University of California, Riverside and a master’s in early childhood education and teaching from Emory University. 10
Finances
In 2024, TODOS Mathematics for All reported $552,611 in total revenue, $203,851 in total expenses, and $624,333 in total assets. 11
TODOS has received grants from the Heising-Simons Foundation and the Gates Foundation totaling $553,750 between the two groups. 2 A stated mission of the Heising-Simons Foundation is to implement “anti-racist activism” in math instruction. 12
