History
The Shapiro Foundation was established in 2000 by Edward and Barbara Shapiro. The foundation partnered with organizations to provide aid to minorities and offer education to refugees. In 2015, the foundation focused on refugee resettlement and integration, investing in initiatives across six continents. 2
In 2019, Shapiro Foundation granted 18 full-time scholarships to the HOME Project for refugee children in Athens, Greece to attend the American Community School. 3
Leadership
Edward Shapiro, a founder and trustee of the Shapiro Foundation, retired as managing partner at PAR Capital Management in 2016 to focus on philanthropy. He sits on the boards of Combined Jewish Philanthropies, RefugePoint, Social Finance, and United Airlines. 1
Barbara Shapiro is a trustee of the Shapiro Foundation and a community volunteer. She sits on the boards of Horizons for Homeless Children and Beaver Country Day School in Boston. Since 2016, she has been actively involved in the Jewish Family Service of Metrowest Syrian Refugee Resettlement Program, supporting refugee families and their integration into local communities. 1
