The Resolution Project was founded in 2007 in the wake of its co-founders attending various youth summits. The group’s co-founders launched the Resolution Project as a means of identifying, training, and empowering young people, especially university students, to promote what they consider to be socially conscious change around the world. 1
The group’s signature event is the Social Venture Challenge (SVC) which it first co-hosted at the 2008 Harvard World Model United Nations youth summit. It has continued to host these challenges annually at the youth summit every year since. 1
Since its founding, the group has claimed to have trained over 700 fellows and to have generated 410 social ventures, which it estimates have assisted six million people in 87 countries. 2
For the fiscal year ending June 2023, the Resolution Project reported $2,684,748 in revenue, of which $2,654,823 stemmed from contributions and grants, with no reported government funding. It reported $2,800,825 in expenses, of which $15,250 was paid out in grants, $1,737,749 in salaries and compensation, $512,384 in fundraising expenses, $175,553 in occupancy expenses, $310,287 for its social venture competition, and $208,788 in special event expenses. It ended the year with a net loss of $116,077 and net assets of $576,201. 4
The Resolution Project holds and seeks to advance a left-of-center worldview, especially concerning its promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) which it expands to inclusion, diversity, equity, access, and learning (IDEAL). Additionally, it emphasizes the power of youth to change the world, going back to the dissatisfaction of its founders who believed they were not being empowered as leaders due to their youth and inexperience. 1 3
The two main projects of the Resolution Project are its Social Venture Challenge, held every year at the Harvard World Model United Nations youth summit, and its fellowship program. The SVC is a way for young people to pitch “socially conscious” projects. Reportedly, 410 such ventures have come into being, and the projects are credited with helping millions of people. 2 1
The fellowship program provides extensive training, mentorship, and resources to its participants to shape them into young leaders and social entrepreneurs. Resources include networking benefits, as well as pro bono services, and financial backing to launch a venture. The project reported having trained over 700 fellows since its inception. 5 2
