Contents

Powered by Michigan advocates for public funding of environmentalist energy adoption and increased taxes and price fixing to funds such initiatives. As a result, it supports legislation such as the Biden administration-backed Inflation Reduction Act, which includes $386 billion in spending on programs such as tax credits for environmentalist energy and electric vehicles as well as a 15 percent minimum tax on corporate book income and price limits on pharmaceutical drugs to fund such programs. 4 5

    Background

Powered by Michigan is a project of Michigan League of Conservation Voters (Michigan LCV). It advocates for policies that would ensure 60 percent of Michigan’s energy would come from environmentalist energy sources and that would eliminate conventional energy by 2035. 1

Michigan LCV is a left-of-center environmentalist nonprofit organization and is a member of the national League of Conservation Voters. 6 It advocates for policies within the state of Michigan that would subsidize the adoption of solar and wind energy and reduce the use of conventional energy. 7

    Advocacy

Powered by Michigan campaigns in support of the state of Michigan publicly funding the adoption of solar and wind energy and applauds it for spending $20 billion on solar and wind energy. 8 Its campaigns for individuals to advocate for their local communities and local governments to adopt policies where they would solely rely on environmentalist energy, claiming that using conventional energy should not be used as they “produce” carbon. 9

    Advertising Campaigns

In September 2023, Powered by Michigan launched two advertising campaigns targeting native Michiganders and telling them to “demand” so-called “home grown” environmentalist energy immediately. The ads, placed on Facebook and YouTube, depict things that may be commonly known by Michigan natives, including differences between localities, and explain that they “may not know” that certain landmarks are powered by environmentalist energy. They both conclude by promoting advocacy for continued adoption of environmental energy. 10 3
