SeriousFun Children’s Network

In 1988, Newman’s Own Foundation founder Paul Newman founded the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, a summer camp for local children diagnosed with illnesses and other health-related issues based in Connecticut. As of 2024, the number of camps had increased to roughly 30 while offering additional community and health-related services in over 50 countries. In 2012, the camp network was renamed SeriousFun Children’s Network. ^{3  4} In 2024, the SeriousFun Children’s Network reportedly generated over $16 million in revenue. ⁵

In January 2026, Christoper L. Butler, the former CEO of Newman-founded SeriousFun Children’s Network-affiliated camp Painted Turtle was arrested on allegations of embezzling over $5 million from the camp organization over a seven-year period. Los Angeles prosecutors charged him with 15 felony counts, including grand theft, forgery, and fraudulent use of a computer. As of January 2026, he had pleaded not guilty. ^{6  7}

Controversies

Lawsuit by Newman Daughters

In 2022, two of Paul Newman’s daughters, Elinor and Susan Newman, filed a lawsuit against the Newman’s Own Foundation in Connecticut state court, saying it had failed to adhere to its responsibilities by reducing annual funds earmarked for their own charitable foundations. The daughters claimed that they were supposed to receive $400,000 for their foundations, so they could direct their own charitable giving under conditions tied to their father’s gift of continued use of his name and image rights; however, they were only given half that amount. The complaint described a “pattern of disregard” for donor intent while alleging additional instances of “mismanagement, scandal, and questionable practices.” ^{8 9 10}

The lawsuit ended in March 2025 with an undisclosed settlement between the parties. ^{9  10}

CEO Ouster

In 2019, NOF removed its then-president and CEO, Bob Forrester, after an internal investigation found allegations of inappropriate behavior toward staff.. ^{11  12}

Financials

According to its 2024 990 tax forms, Newman’s Own Foundation (NOF) reported revenue of $15,544,253, expenses of $15,577,286, and net assets of $215,472,171.  ¹³

Leadership

Alexandra Amouyel is the president and CEO of Newman’s Own Foundation (NOF), having held the role since 2023. Prior to joining NOF, Amouyel was the executive director of MIT Solve, a director of programs for the Clinton Global Initiative, and was a staffer with the International Save the Children Alliance as well as Boston Consulting Group. ^{14  15}

Amouyel has spoken publicly about reimagining how business and philanthropy intersect, saying this approach is a “viable alternative to orthodox capitalism.  ^{16  17}
