Leadership
An individual philanthropist, Lydia B. Stokes founded the Lydia B. Stokes Foundation in 1959 until her death in 1988. The Stokes Foundation funds left-leaning advocacy groups such as local affiliates of Planned Parenthood; the Post Carbon Institute, a left-leaning nonprofit that opposes the use of hydrocarbon fuels; and the American Friends Service Committee, a left-leaning Quaker-associated group that promotes and supports expansionist immigration policies, leniency in criminal justice, and socialist economic proposals. 2
Nancy V. Deren is a co-trustee of the Lydia B. Stokes Foundation and is also a personal finance coach. Deren is a member of the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education. 3
