Background
Lutheran Community Services Northwest is a humanitarian organization based in SeaTac, a suburb of Seattle, Washington. It is loosely affiliated with the Lutheran Church. It was officially founded in 1926; however, the group considers its true origin to be the Lutheran Compass Mission in Tacoma, which opened in 1921. In 2025, Lutheran Community Services Northwest joined a lawsuit filed by the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) against the Trump administration concerning the suspension of the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program and the withholding of millions of dollars in funds for refugee resettlement agencies. Church World Service (CWS), the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS), and nine affected individuals were also represented by IRAP in the suit. 2
