The League for Industrial Democracy (LID) was an organization formed in 1921 from the re-naming and change in focus by the Intercollegiate Socialist Society, a student-led group formed in 1905 that advocated in favor of socialism on school campuses. The change in name and focus reflected an effort in “educating Americans about the need to extend democracy to every aspect of our society.” 1
