The International Organization for the Family (IOF), also known as the Howard Center for Family, Religion, and Society; is an advocacy organization that intends to defend and promote the values of the natural family and protect the dignity of all human life by educating and uniting world leaders. 1

The International Organization for the Family’s main projects include the World Congress of Families, The Natural Family (TNF), the Article 16 Initiative, and the Emerging Leaders Program. 2

Activities

The World Congress of Families (WCF) convenes regional and global conferences intended to bring together and equip organizations, leaders, and families to defend and promote the natural family. At the 2019 congress held in Verona, Italy, the themes of the conference included marriage, children’s rights, and women’s roles in history. 3

The IOF publishes The Natural Family (TNF): An International Journal of Research and Policy, a quarterly academic publication promoting the natural family and dignity of all human life. 4 An article from January 30, 2022, claims that the culture of the natural family, including marriage, married happiness, and large families, has been under attack for 70 years. The article claims that the family culture founded on Judeo-Christian principles has been replaced by a changed Western culture that started with the excesses of the French Revolution and was furthered by the research and publications of sexologist Alfred Kinsey. The article further claims Kinsey’s conclusions were “bogus” and that a study that he conducted was “criminally executed.” 5

Other articles in TNF’s 2022 issue support homeschooling as a right, criticize the Western model of education, and shed light on research conducted on same-sex parenting and the decline of sexual activity in teens and young adults. 6

Funding

The IOF is funded by donations from individuals, foundations, and businesses. Tax filings confirm donations from Alliance Defending Freedom ($50,000 in 2020), 7 the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation ($30,000 in 2017), 8 and the Gulf Coast Community Foundation ($10,000 in 2017). 9
