The Global Center for Justice is a left-of-center nonprofit based in New York City that advocates for feminist ideals and abortion access before international organizations like the United Nations and in American courts. The Global Justice Center asserts that abortion is a fundamental right that is protected by international law, and it has said abortion is “an absolute necessity for the achievement of gender equality.” 1

The organization also joined a lawsuit against the Trump administration, claiming the administration’s Commission on Unalienable Rights violated the Federal Advisory Committee Act. 2 In 2023, the organization advocated for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas. 3

Agenda

Feminist Advocacy

The Global Center for Justice advocates for feminist ideals in international bodies like the United Nations. The organization claims that organizations like the United Nations “were established with an inherently patriarchal understanding of diplomacy, law, and power,” and asserts that these international organizations need to be restructured to be more feminist. 4

Global Justice Center also asserts that international organizations that have been shaped by feminism should have the power to enforce “Progressive frameworks based on international human rights standards replace patriarchal domestic laws to enable justice for sexual and gender-based violence and dismantle structural gender inequality.” 5

Support for Abortion

The Global Justice Center advocates for a right to abortion and claims such a right is protected in international law. 6 The organization says, “Safe abortion is a fundamental part of the sexual and reproductive health and rights framework and must be accessible to all pregnant people.” 7

The Global Justice Center said abortion is “an absolute necessity for the achievement of gender equality.” 8 The organization also argued in an amicus brief in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health case that “abortion bans have not led to a decrease in the number of abortions, but rather an increase in the number of unsafe abortions—especially affecting people of limited means.” 9

Lawsuit against the Trump Administration

The Global Justice Center joined a lawsuit filed by the RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights against the Trump administration’s Commission on Unalienable Rights. The lawsuit claimed that the Trump administration violated the Federal Advisory Committee Act because it allegedly failed to uphold transparency requirements and had allegedly unqualified members who held pro-life views and opposed same-sex marriage. 10 While Biden administration Secretary of State Antony Blinken ended the commission, the plaintiffs argued that they had already suffered damage from the commission’s work. 11

Israel-Hamas War

The Global Justice Center advocated for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip after Hamas terrorists invaded southern Israel on October 7, 2023. The organization said in a statement, “Today, we put our voices together and call on all Heads of State, the UN Security Council, and actors on the ground, to prioritize the preservation of human life above all else.” 12 In addition to a ceasefire, the organization called for humanitarian aid, an end to evacuation orders by the Israeli government, and the release of all hostages. 13 The Global Justice Center claimed that a ceasefire was the “only option to avert further loss of civilian life and humanitarian catastrophe. Anything less will forever be a stain on our collective conscience.”  14

Finances

In the 2021 fiscal year, the Global Justice Center had $844,763 in total revenue and $1,263,094 in total expenses. 15 In the 2020 fiscal year, the organization had $1,737,408 in total revenue and $1,197,179 in total expenses. 16 The Global Justice Center’s second largest program expense was $374,150 spent on international legal advocacy, and its largest program expense was $430,451 spent on abortion advocacy. 17
