El Centro began as El Centro de Servicios para Hispanos with a $10,000 grant from the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas and support from the Cordi Marian Sisters and other Roman Catholic leaders to organize and serve the growing Hispanic community in Kansas City. 1 El Centro works with other left-of-center groups in the Kansas City area to promote left-of-center policies. 2
