The Docs 4 Patient Care Foundation (D4PCF) supports a health care economy that is based on free-market principles, affordable and transparent pricing, and patient choice. 1 It claims to be the only health care policy think tank whose board is composed entirely of practicing physicians that have hands-on knowledge of the American health care system. 2

Background

Practicing physicians founded the Docs 4 Patient Care Foundation. The group says its founders have a combined 140 years of experience in direct patient care. 3

The organization is headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and has an office in Atlanta, Georgia. 4

The organization hosts conferences and produces a weekly radio show. 5

Policy Advocacy

The Docs 4 Patient Care Foundation has analyzed health care issues and policy. The group works with national healthcare policy advocates, members of Congress, state legislators, business experts, and the media. 6

The Docs 4 Patient Care Foundation made a “Doctors Wish List for Health Care Reform” that calls for changes the group says would help lower prices. 7

The Docs 4 Patient Care Foundation is a member of the Healthcare for You coalition, a free-market health care advocacy group. 8

Leadership

Lee Gross is the president of the Docs for Patient Care Foundation. Gross also co-founded and is senior vice president of Epiphany Health, a medical practice located in North Port and Arcadia, Florida. Gross is a founding member of the North Port Community Health Action Team, a group advocating for improvements to health and wellness. 9 Gross earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University and is board-certified in family medicine. He is on the board of trustees of Fawcett Memorial Hospital and is the president of the Florida Chapter of Docs4PatientCare. 10

Mike Koriwchak is the vice president of the Docs 4 Patient Care Foundation. A graduate of Duke University School of Medicine, he is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He previously worked in Atlanta as a doctor for Ear, Nose and Throat of Georgia, practicing Laryngology, Thyroid/Parathyroid Surgery, Endoscopic Sinus Surgery and General Otolaryngology. 11

Hal Scherz is the founder and secretary of the Docs 4 Patient Care Foundation. 12 Scherz is a pediatric urologist at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and is an assistant professor at Emory University. He is also a managing partner of Georgia Pediatric Urology and is a former president of the American Association of Pediatric Urologists. 13
