The Children’s Defense Fund Action Council is a child advocacy group that promotes policies which support children in the areas of healthcare and education. It is the 501(c)(4) sister organization of left-of-center Children’s Defense Fund(CDF) and is the lobbying organization of the CDF. 1

The organization produces a scorecard that measures how members of Congress vote and legislate on the Children’s Defense Fund’s left-of-center agenda. The scorecard went on a 10-year hiatus from 2011 to 2021. 2

Leadership

Starsky Wilson is the president and CEO of the CDF. He took over the position from its founder in 2020. Previously, he was president and CEO of the Deaconess Foundation. He is the board chair of the left-wing National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy and an advisor to Pierre Omidyar’s  Democracy Fund. 3

Marian Wright Edelman is the founder and president emerita of the CDF. She worked with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the Poor People’s Campaign and founded the CDF in 1973. She retired as president in December 2020. 4

Angela Glover Blackwell is the chairwoman of the board. 5

Finances

According to the 2019 tax return, the organization spent $4600 and raised $350. It had assets of $294,352. 6
