Asset Builders of America is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that promotes financial literacy to low- and moderate-income students, young adults, and families throughout Wisconsin. 1

Activities

Asset Builders of America produces programs geared towards a variety of ages, which teach financial capability as a means to economically empower low- and moderate-income individuals. Asset Builders promotes financial literacy and awareness through Got Money!, a personal responsibility education program for teens; an interactive Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl; Youth P.O.W.E.R., a personal finance bootcamp for teens; The Millionaires’ Club, a program designed to accelerate the economic knowledge of students; and The Money Conference, a financial education conference with speakers and workshops. 2

Asset Builders of America produces policy research to support wealth building for individuals who rarely participate in the credit economy and likely have no, little, or inaccurate credit histories. Asset Builders claims that since credit is foundational to building wealth, utility and cell phone payments should be reported to credit databases to be accounted for in an individual’s credit report. Asset Builders further claims that for some individuals, these transactions would demonstrate payment behaviors that lead to more access to credit and ultimately personal wealth. 3

Funding

Asset Builders of America is funded by donations from individuals, foundations, and corporations. While Asset Builders does not disclose other donors, tax filings confirm donations from the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation ($45,000 in 2020), 4 the Medical College of Wisconsin ($14,111 in 2016), 5 and the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation ($11,000 in 2019). 6
