The Arlene and Michael Rosen Foundation (AMRF) is a California-based private foundation that claims to provide funding for “community-led care” for drug abuse. 1 The organization has also provided funding and support towards left-of-center policies on housing, social justice, and Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC)-led organizations. 2

Background

The Arlene and Michael Rosen Foundation (AMRF) was formed following the death of Arlene Rosen’s son Michael Rosen from a drug overdose in Fiji. Following his death, in 1989 Arlene Rosen founded Michael’s House, a drug rehabilitation and treatment facility based in Palm Springs, California. 3 4 Initially operating as a direct service provider, Michael’s House eventually led to the creation of the AMFR in 2015. 5 4

In 2025, AMRF partnered with the Trust Based Philanthropy Project through their “Meet the moment” initiative. This initiative seeks to bring its supporters together “in solidarity with nonprofits.” The group claims that the political climate could pose risks to nonprofits through reductions in funding, legal concerns, and lack of staff. 6

Finances

According to its 2023 tax forms, the Arlene and Michael Rosen Foundation (AMRF) reported a revenue of $624,896, expenses of $ 5,005,955, and total assets of $18,946,062. 7
