The American Principles Project Foundation is the research and education arm of the American Principles Project, a right-of-center advocacy group that is involved in pro-family public policy and political campaigns that was founded by Princeton University Professor Robert George and political strategist Frank Cannon. ¹

APPF was founded in 2009, the same year as the APP, and says it seeks to address public policy with “human dignity at its heart.” The foundation asserts the family is the primary institution of society. ⁴

Policy

The APP Foundation says it focuses on protecting religious liberty by drawing attention to threats to freedom of conscience and has a “Contract with American Families,” that includes a set of what it calls “pro-family” policy initiatives. ⁵

The foundation says it educates lawmakers and the public about problems facing American families and what policy solutions could help families. ⁶

The foundation has defended parental rights in education. The foundation has also opposed nationwide Common Core standards in schools through publishing research of what it identifies as “deep flaws” in the standards. ⁷

Leadership

Frank Cannon is the CEO of the American Principles Project Foundation and a member of the APP Foundation board. ⁸ Cannon was the founding president of the American Principles Project. He previously was a political strategist for the Susan B. Anthony List, a pro-life campaign group. He is a former head of Students for Reagan in 1980. He also was a campaign advisor for the presidential campaigns of Jack Kemp in 1988 and John McCain in 2008. ^{9 10}

Sean Fieler is a member of the board of the American Principles Project Foundation and the chairman of the board of the American Principles Project. ¹¹ He is the president of Equinox Partners, L.P., and the Kuroto Fund, L.P. He has also been a board member of the Witherspoon Institute, the Manhattan Institute, the Acton Institute, and the Susan B. Anthony List. ¹²

Alan P. Dye, a partner at the law firm of Webster, Chamberlain, and Bean in Washington, D.C., is an APP Foundation board member. ^{13 14}

Ross Burnam is an APP Foundation board member. ¹⁵

Maggie Gallagher, a co-founder of the National Organization for Marriage, is an APP Foundation board member. ^{16 17}

Robert Case, the CEO of Ingalls and Snyder, is an APP Foundation board member. ^{18 19}
