We Are ALX (formerly Amplify LatinX) is a left-of-center nonprofit organization that operates as an advocacy group focusing on Latino political and economic empowerment in Massachusetts. 1 Established in 2017, the group has evolved from networking activities into a comprehensive advocacy operation that combines business development, political advocacy, and leadership development. 1

Organizational Leadership and Structure

As of 2025, the organization was led by Eneida Roman, who served as president and chief executive officer. Román, an attorney and organizational psychologist, maintains extensive connections to Massachusetts Democratic political networks and left-of-center advocacy organizations. 2 Her appointment portfolio includes serving as an appointee to the Massachusetts Governor’s Office’s Latino Empowerment Council, chairing the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Permanent Commission on the Status of Latinos and Latinas, and holding board positions with organizations including the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Women’s advisory board, MassINC‘s board of directors, and Eastern Bank’s board of ambassadors. 2

As of 2025, the organization’s chief of staff was Monica Hinojos-Capes, who brought more than 20 years of experience in what she describes as “advancing feminist, racial equity, peace-building, and political initiatives” to the organization. 3 Hinojos-Capes is board chair of Calling All Crows, a nonprofit described as “mobilizing music fans to fuel feminist movements,” and has held leadership roles with organizations including oneTILT. 3

We Are ALX’s board of directors includes individuals with connections to major health-care systems, consulting firms, and foundations. Board chair Eileen Alexopoulos is senior director of Health Equity and DEI Liaison at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, while board member Joseph Betancourt holds positions as president of the Commonwealth Fund and associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. 1

Financials

We Are ALX reported total revenues of $1.58 million for fiscal year 2023, with contributions comprising most of its income at $1.81 million. The organization’s financial structure shows executive compensation totaling $284,632, with Roman receiving $217,930 in compensation and Hinojos-Capes receiving $116,701. Total assets were reported as $774,729 with liabilities of $106,495. 4

Funding

Major funding sources include federal grants secured through congressional appropriations. U.S. Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) secured $400,000 in federal Community Project Funding for We Are ALX’s business program in fiscal year 2023. This federal funding supported what the organization described as “bilingual, culturally relevant, and intensive strategic business coaching to Latinx entrepreneurs.” 5

Activities

We Are ALX operates through three primary program areas: business development, policy advocacy, and leadership representation. The ALX Business Program provides consulting services to Latino-owned businesses, claiming to have supported over 300 businesses in 2024 with nearly 4,000 hours of strategic guidance. The program includes workshops on topics such as government contracting, artificial intelligence applications, and digital marketing tactics. 6

The organization’s ALX100 program annually recognizes 100 Latino leaders across Massachusetts, with selections made by what it describes as an independent committee. The 2025 ALX100 list was featured in the Boston Globe Magazine, providing significant media visibility for the organization’s activities. 7

In policy advocacy, We Are ALX commissions research and advocates for state legislation. The organization supported the Massachusetts Leads Act, which codifies definitions for “micro businesses” and establishes resource access frameworks. We Are ALX also advocated for wage transparency legislation and housing policy initiatives during 2024. 8
