Background

Energy Avenue was formed as a limited liability company (LLC) in Ohio in 2011 and dissolved in 2015. 2  The website for the firm is not active and archived versions of the firm’s webpage from 2014 to 2017 only show a message from the firm that the website was under construction. 3

Fairmount Group

Energy Avenue is listed as a client of left-of-center Fairmount Group, a marketing firm that works with left-of-center activist groups and Democratic campaigns in advocating for the elimination of restrictions on abortions  including late-term abortions and organizing LGBT events. 4

The Fairmount Group’s website vaguely calls Energy Avenue “a leading energy management consulting firm based in Cleveland founded by a group of thought leaders in sustainability and innovation.” Energy Avenue and the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) purportedly hired the Fairmount Group to promote the launch of My Energy My Way, a platform that Energy Avenue made for NOPEC to allow consumers to analyze their energy consumption habits. 5

Fairmount Group stated that “Energy Avenue was engaged to develop a flagship program for NOPEC to enable residents in member communities to take ownership of their energy use by understanding and controlling their demand. To be successful, the program required a strong, compelling and creative campaign that would encourage participation.” 6

The Fairmount Group stated that the goal of its engagement was to “ensure an electrifying launch of the new program. This included the development of the program’s Brand Platform™ — including the creation of the MyEnergyMyWay™ program name, a visual identity system, Key Message Framework™ and a powerful creative campaign.” Fairmount also “oversaw the production of all promotional materials, both print and electronic, including an extensive direct response package for government officials, and developed content marketing assets, including the program’s website and blog.”  7

The Fairmount Group stated that its launch campaign for Energy Avenue and NOPEC won a 2013 Cleveland Rocks award from the Cleveland chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. 8

Other Fairmount Group clients include local government organizations, including health departments and school districts, as well as abortion providers, housing providers, churches, and for-profit organizations on left-of-center advocacy efforts. It conducts campaigns in support of late-term abortions, including with Democratic campaigns, and in support of LGBT activism. 9 10
