The National Federation of Stonewall Democrats is a left-of-center LGBT-focused PAC formed in January 2025 that seeks to promote LGBT issues within the Democratic Party and society at large. 1 The group was formed as a national coalition for various state-level LGBT activist groups to pool resources for national activism. Within days of its formation, the group began attacking President Donald Trump over his supposedly discriminatory policies towards LGBT people and objected to his statement on his inauguration day that there are only two genders. 2 3

Founding and History

The National Federation of Stonewall Democrats was founded in January 2025 in response to the then-forthcoming second inauguration of President Donald Trump. There was a previous LGBT activist group called Stonewall Democrats, but it had gone defunct roughly 12 years before. The new group seeks to continue on that group’s legacy in opposing what it considers to be an administration unfriendly to LGBT interests. 2 4

The name “Stonewall” is a reference to a famous riot that broke out in New York City in June 1969 in response to a police raid on a gay bar. The result was six days of riots and disorder that some LGBT groups and activists consider an important milestone in gay activism. 2

The organization itself was created by various pre-existing state-level Stonewall Democrats groups and similar organizations. 5

Finances

The National Federation of Stonewall Democrats was formed in January 2025 and as a result does not have any financial filings available with the FEC as of February 2025. The group is registered as a Hybrid PAC. 6

Organization Philosophy

The National Federation of Stonewall Democrats seeks to promote LGBT issues both within the Democratic Party and society at large. It promotes adequate “representation” of LGBT people in the party. On the legislative and policy fronts, it seeks to expand non-discrimination protections for LGBT people; promote more government-funded health care, which includes so-called “gender affirming care”; and deal with climate issues in an intersectional manner. 2

Within weeks of forming, the group began to issue press releases that condemned President Donald Trump and his agenda. On January 20, 2025, the group issued a statement attacking President Trump for stating that there are only two genders, saying that this dismissed the diverse experience of LGBT Americans. It also condemned his executive orders that rolled back diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) orders and complained that he was reducing protections for transgender people. 3

In another press release, issued at the beginning of February 2025, the group condemned President Trump’s executive order to protect women’s sports by banning persons born male from participating in women’s athletics. 7

Leadership

Jeremy Comeau is the president of the National Federation of Stonewall Democrats, a position he has held since the organization’s founding. His previous work has included various labor and political activist positions, including campaign positions, a position on the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee, and as a member of the board of directors for Bay State Stonewall Democrats for over eight years. He is concurrently the associate director for labor action with the Massachusetts Nurses Association and his biography notes his history of labor-union activism. 8 9
