The All-African People’s Revolutionary Party (A-APRP) is a Pan-African socialist political party which aims to achieve “total liberation and unification of Africa under scientific socialism.” 1 The group opposes the political systems present in the United States and expresses direct support for Hamas in the Israel-Palestinian conflict that broke out after the October 7, 2023 attacks. 2
The party states it works to align itself with progressive and revolutionary groups throughout the world. The party follows Nkrumahism-Toureism-Cabralism, an ideology which focuses on uniting all Africans into one socialist group focused on humanism, egalitarianism, industrialism, and collectivism. 3 4 Although the party has roots in Africa, it has adherents all over the world and states that all people of African descent are one people and should belong to the party. 5
History
All-African People’s Revolutionary Party got its start from the Democratic Party of Guinea in 1947 under Sekou Toure, who would become the country’s first president upon independence in 1958. It was expanded in 1949 by the Convention People’s Party of Ghana under Kwame Nkrumah, who would become that country’s first president upon independence in 1957. 6 7
In 1957 and 1958, Ghana and Guinea gained independence respectively and the first meeting of the All-African People’s Conference happened in Ghana. Then-President Nkrumah published a book called the Handbook of Revolutionary Warfare in 1968 in which he called for the creation of the All-African People’s Revolutionary Party. This book, along with other of Nkrumah’s works, form the ideological framework for the Pan-African movement. The first A-APRP program study program was completed in Guinea in 1968, and the program was brought to United States colleges in 1972. This was followed by Canada, the Caribbean, and Europe, eventually expanding to more than 33 countries. In 1980, A-APRP started the All-African Women’s Revolutionary Union (A-AWRU), a group within the party created to make sure African women have a voice in the movement and to help keep sexism out of the party. 8 9
Party Activities
Build the A-APRP is the name of the All-African People’s Revolutionary Party expansion program and is the only program it officially claims to have. The program aims to strengthen the party’s relationship with left-wing organizations and revolutionary movements throughout the world. One of the party’s specific activities in Africa is to organize and recruit young, educated Africans to help “spark” an African Revolution. In the United States, the party wants to destroy the Democratic Party and the Republican Party while pushing Africans to make independent political parties which are controlled completely by Africans. It also wants to take down the FBI, CIA, and other intelligence agencies. In the Middle East, the party wants to destroy Zionism and has expressed public support for Hamas. 10
Support for Palestinians
Solidarity Speech
All-African People’s Revolutionary Party claims to have been a supporter of Palestinian Arab sovereignty since the party’s inception. It has stated its support for the actions of Hamas in the Israel-Palestine War; however, when addressing the war, A-APRP always refers to Hamas’ terrorist actions as Palestinian liberation. In December 2023 at a rally in Kenya, one of A-APRP’s Central Committee Representatives, Sobukwe Shukura, gave a speech making it clear that A-APRP stands in solidarity with Hamas. 11
Palestine Webinar
In 2024, A-APRP created an educational webinar defending the actions of Hamas. This was sponsored by the Black Alliance for Peace, Student for Justice in Palestine, Al Awda (Palestine Right to Return Coalition), and Hood Communist. The webinar discusses Pan-Africanism, Colonialism, Islam, how Zionism destroyed Africa, and why Africans must support the actions of Hamas in the ongoing conflict. 12
