Philanthropy

Phillip Ragon and his wife, Susan, are active philanthropists in the Boston area. Their primary philanthropic vehicle is the Phillip and Susan Ragon Foundation, which reported revenues of $10,345,309 and assets of $26,927,630 in 2024. ^{6  7}

They have made donations of more than $350 million to Boston-area hospitals and health research institutes, including a $100 million donation and another $200 million in pledges toward the development of an AIDS vaccine at the Ragon Institute, a joint research center of Massachusetts General Hospital, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Harvard University. ^{7  8}

Ragon and his wife Susan signed the Giving Pledge in 2017, promising to give away most of their wealth.  ⁷

Political Donations

Phillip Ragan is an active Democratic political donor. According to the OpenSecrets campaign donation database, Ragan has donated more than $11.8 million to the Democratic Party and its candidates, committees, and associated PACs since 2004.  ⁹

Ragan began his substantial, six-figure giving in 2012 with a $250,000 donation to the American Bridge 21st Century PAC founded by Democratic operative David Brock. ⁹ As of 2026, he had made a total of $3 million in donations to American Bridge, including a $1.25 million gift in 2019.  ^{3  9}

The largest recipient of Ragon’s reported giving is the Senate Majority PAC, to which he has donated a total of $3,987,300 from 2018 through mid-2026.  ⁹

His other cumulative donations as of 2026 include $1,712,700 to the House Majority PAC, $1,018,900 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), $500,000 to Priorities USA Action, and $496,900 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC).  ⁹
